View Full Version : Too much light or not enough?

I’ve had a red Blastomussa colony under VHO’s for some 6 years. The colony of 12 to 14 polys has always been a very nice good red color. I upgraded to an AI Sol Blue LED’s system 3 weeks ago and have now noticed that the colony is turning more brown red in color. The polyps seem to be open as much and look happy, just changing color.
Does anyone know if this color change is from too much light, or too little?

I only had one AI Sol fixture, so my experience is limited. I don't think I wasn't getting enough light down to my clams with it, so I think it didn't have the penetration I needed and sold it. I have a 180 so it's 72 x 24 x 24, and probably would have had to buy six to get the coverage I needed too.

They are may be shocked from the change in light. When switching lighting, one should slowly acclimate the habitants to the new lighting. Do this by shortening the photoperiod or dimming the lights (only if dimmable) and slowly working up to the full photoperiod desired or brightness desired (if dimmable). Otherwise you could move the colony to the bottom and slowly move them back to where you want them if not already on the bottom.
