I inadvertently increased my salinityfrom 1.018 to 1.0121 24 hrs yesterday in my hyposalinity tx tank. I've been trying to increase only .001 a day. Now my yellow tang looks a bit listless and is breathing fast. Should I leave him alone and hope he adjusts or should I lower it back .001?

Quick changes in salinity produce the result you are seeing. As said in the post above he is adjusting. Just hope he does so successfully. I'm pretty sure he'll be fine. Don't try to change anything too fast or you'll get the same results again (I know, it was an accident :)). Being he is already stressed an adjustment now could be fatal. Let him ride it out before adjusting again.

+1 on leaving him alone, and try to minimize stress for him. Add PVC pipes for him to hide with and feel safe and minimize lighting sources, for example.

How are you raising salinity? I am topping my HT off with saltwater instead of fresh. Since there isn't much evap, it doesn't raise a lot. Maaaaybe .001 in a day. I think it's closer to .0005 or .00075. I can't actually guarantee you this is how much but it'sfairly close.

Your numbers show a decrease in SG, maybe meant 1.018 to 1.021?

I think he meant 1.018 to 1.021.

It's not that bad. That's just a 0.003 increase. When I do hyposalinity, I raise it by 0.001-0.003 a day at the end of the period. I've never seen any of my fish stress out from it. Are you sure your measurements are accurate? If they are, then make sure all the other parameters in your QT are OK. pH, ammonia, nitrite/nitrate, etc. They can also cause distress signs if they are out of whack.
