So we lost our tang yesterday to hlle (the day after rush ordering selcon) but the lfs replaced it for us. We just brought home our new tang today, its drip acclimating now. He's not moving much, and just laying against the side of the bucket... I've heard differing opinions that this is normal when tang's are stressed, and others say no, it should be active anyway. Thoughts? Should i be worried?

I wouldn't worry, I've seen them laying on their sides while acclimating, almost like they're playing opossum.

when i had my tang , and when i brought it home it was sort of just chillin in one spot. Look if it is breathing hard or breathing at all. I think you should be fine.

My blue tang lays on the bottom almost motionless when its stressed. Been alive for over a year and still going, LOL!

Great, thanks guys! Its a kole, and it doesn't look like its breathing... but its eyes are moving, and I actually moved the bucket to make sure it was alive and he then darted around the bucket for a good min before settling back into his spot motionless again LOL.

You got punked by a Kole. Sometimes I think they do it on purpose... all drains lead to the ocean lol :spin3:

Good luck with him. We had a Kole that seemed to have been the source of an ich outbreak that pretty much decimated the tank about a year ago. I hope that you are drip acclimating him for a QT.

We are about to yank all of our fish from our DT and dump them into QT with hypo for 6 weeks. The reason is that 2 of the fish survived the ich outbreak and so the tank has had fish in it ever since the ich so before we take another shot at a tang I want to do everything possible to ensure that we are indeed ich free.

We don't QT (gasp, I know I get lots of crap for it). Our LFS had him ordered for us and has already been QT'd. I wholeheartedly trust our LFS though, we have had HUGE success with them. BUT knock on wood, neither my dad nor us have ever had any issues with not QTing... My dad owned a fish store back in the 80's and has had dozens (literally lol) of fish tanks as I was growing up. This guy looks healthy as heck though, no spots, great color.
