View Full Version : do u need to dose calcium, alkilinity and magnesium in a softy tank?

is there any need for these supplements in an all softy tank

No need, especially so if you are doing regular water changes. Those supplements are used up in the production of calcium carbonate in stoney corals, although encrusting algae and some other tank inhabitants will consume some... your water changes should be able to keep up with that consumption.

Yes they do among other things. The only way to know if you need to dose anything at all is to test the water. I have to dose my tanks but I have tons of stuff in nano tanks

LPS: large polyped STONEY :). This is a good point about testing... It would be a good idea, I just suspect strongly you will not need to dose if you have no stoney corals and are doing water changes regularly.
