I just got a Fluval Spec 5 gallon and I want to do an LED conversion to the light that it came with. The tank is 17x6.5x11H, The light that it comes with is 12" and I was planning on getting a heatsink from RapidLED.com that is 12" long x 1.4" wide. My question is.... how many total LEDS should I be using to get good coverage on my tank. Also how many cool white and royal blues will I need to get? Sorry I am new to DIY LEDs.

Here is a picture of my future pico!!!

do this:

do 4 royal blue 2 cool white.

Then, if you want you can add up to 8 more leds on that driver. 6 should be more than enough for any LPS...

I would say so. Order an extra white, just in case it is too blue for you. You can swap in to make it 3/3 easily enough.
