A. Efflo keeps getting covered with sand

I keep my efflo in a pretty high-flow section of the tank, the flow is horizontal though and thus whenever sand gets kicked around it settles on my efflo and doesn't leave till i blow it off in the evening. Its still alive and all but it doesn't seem real happy about it. Can I get my efflo to grow vertically to avoid this problem? (glue it vertically)

Sure you can but the subsequent growth will be horizontal at any point but I think it will be towards the base. That's just how efflo grows.
