Ok, so I am trying to put together a 10g on the cheap, much easier sell to the wife ;) Going to build a stand for it to match our other furniture.

What I currently have:
10g tank
*Aquaclear 50 (going to make this a mini fuge)
*Koralia 2 (thinking this will be too much flow so might look for a nano powerhead or maybe MaxiJet perhaps)

What I need: lighting

I plan mainly to keep some smaller fish that would get lost in my 75g (thnk clown goby's, yasha goby's etc) and maybe some softies, no plans for any LPS or SPS. Keeping in mind that cheap is easy to sell to the wife, what are any decent fixtures (LED, T5, MH...I'm open) that will look good and not break the bank. This tank will be next to our entertainment center so it will be seen probably more than my 75g which is in a front room.

Thanks

honestly if you want to go cheap and fish and softies

Get DRY rock,
Koralia 750, this plus the flow from the HOB will be plenty
a HOB filter, with just carbon in it...if more money allows, just get a HOB skimmer (reef octopus pretty good. Aqua C not a bad choice either)
-get a small 2 bulb T-5 light of ebay.
-RO-DI water from store
-eheim jager heater 100w
Slowly add a few fish. Do a simple 3g WC every 4 weeks and you will have no issues.

i inevitably upgraded to 20H(ran out of room) and added a sabea anemonee for the clown and even a clam. everything did great!

Yep, plan to go with dry rock and already have an RO/DI unit ;) .

I have an extra Koralia 1050 also, but figured that would be a lot of flow for a small tank, am I off on that thought?

I'll do some eBay searching for the light, links to the kind that you got? Thanks

sweet deal on the ro/di unit already!

The 1050 may move sand if you plan to use it. But since you have it try it. The flow is pretty wide on them. Try it, if too much get a smaller one. Probably can find a used 750 or even 450 for under $20.

I have a 40g frag tank. that I use a 1400 and 1050 on and seems to be not a lot of flow. No sand tho and the tank has a 36 x 30 foot print tho.

Those tanks look great by the way and are kind of what I am hoping for.

Thanks, I think I set these up for under like $250.

I pretty much had some Dry rock laying around, took an extra piece or two from my main tank, had the pump for flow and a heater lying around. Made frags from my other tank.

Bought a 10G tank ($15), few fish($50), light($100), timer($10) background sheet($5), a HOB($75), put on kids small dresser and done!

I would look into a Koralia Nano 425 or 240. I think the Evo's would look horrible in a 10G since they are so big.

Thats what I was thinking, the Koralia 2 I have just looks rather large in the tank.

ok, so still undecided on the lighting for this little project. Probably end up going with a cheap T5 fixture but I have been mulling around the idea of doing a PAR38 setup. Would one of the Ecoxotic bulbs (like the PAR38 LED Aquarium Lamp 18 Watt Red, White, Blue (6 Blue, 4 White, 2 Red) do ok on its own for a 10g?

Im all about simplistic, I love it, what type of filtration do you have on it?that would be perfect for my office.

It was some all in one deal from ebay. Like $50. I pulled all the mechanical filtration and just used it for some extra flow and the skimmer that was on it.

You may want to look into a basic HOB skimmer, basically all you want. But if tank is just low key softies & LPS. Basic WC maybe plenty. Plus quieter

WC, water change. if all you plan to keep is zos', shrooms, xenia, softies, etc. Then simple 2-3g WC every month should be morth than plenty.

No need for a HOB skimmer unless you want to, as it can help for Oxegen supply as well.
