So I have my stand basically complete but I can't figure out how to build doors for this thing without having gaps or hinges on the outside looking hideous.

I need 1 door on the left side as well for my Sump to slide in and out of just like this stand basically but here is 1 other problem I "JUST" freaking realized. The 2x4s on the sides that I put running vertically to support the weight instead of the screws is now in the way of sliding my tank inside and out as it took up that 1" space I created for it. What should I do to get this sump inside now? I can take those 2 pieces out and put them back in but down the road when there is 600lbs on this stand, I don't think I would be able to take those 2 2x4s out beacuse I would need to use a rubber mallet at the moment to pop them out.

This is my stand...

Just painted my DIY Stand with Oil Based Semi Gloss white paint.

Did my 1st coat of staining the top birch plywood Ebony black and sanded it slightly afterwards, going to do the second coat tomorrow.

THis is something similar I need except I rather have 2 doors or 1 big one as opposed to that tiny front small one.

Im no expert in woodwork but here is one way, build your door frames from 1x3 (just rip a 1x4) and use luan plywood or beadboard for the panel. To hide the hinges head to lowes and get some "euro" or hidden hinges, you will need the correct size forstner bit.

A less DIY option is to call a cabinet shop and have the doors made. Also where I live mobile home manufacturers somtimes have premade doors on the cheap.

As for removing that 2x4 just notch the inch you need out it wont compromise structural integrity.

Simple. Google "Euro hinge" and search images. That's exactly the type of thing they were designed for. You probably have some form of Euro hinge on the doors in your kitchen.

easiest way to get your sump in would be to remove the center support brace and drop it down from the top. If the box frame has the entire tank - remove the center brace and brace the middles vertically. Otherwise - it doesn't look like the center brace is doing much of anything for you in terms of support - since it's screws supporting it it and not boards supporting it.

I was going to go with magnetic removable doors on mine so I'd have no hinges.

Ok. The easiest way to make the doors would be to cut pieces of 3/4" finish ply to size and edge band the sides, the iron on stuff is ok but the self adhesive edge band or the kind you apply with contact cement is better. They will be flat but will look clean and are easy to make. You can put two doors in the front, to avoid a gap just attatch a piece of 1x to the back of one of the doors to serve as an astragal. Using European style hinges is the way to go so they will be concealed. If you opt to do the flat doors. Use some 1x or 3/4" plywood to build out the corners of the stand to be flush to the doors. That will give you a clean contemporary looking stand.

I used 3/4" ply and 3/4" quarter-round to make a frame around it. Pretty simple to do with a miter saw, then just glue/nail to the ply.

Home depot or lowes sells the euro hinges, as well as a forstner bit kit that makes the hinges super easy to install (worth the $10-$15 for how easy and clean it looks imo.)
