I soon will be setting up a 280 gal reef tank. I am thinking of using old 75 gal tank I have laying around for the refugium. I have already a 130 gal sump that will house the protein skimmer, reactors, and about 100 pounds of live rock. What is the tank to refugium ratio should I go with?

Mine will be 1:3. I think I've stated that correctly. 120 gallon tank, 40 gallon refuge.

I am curious to see the replies to this one. I recently replaced my 48x18x18 sump with two tanks 40x22x18 + 48x22x18. The second one has the refugim in it, the refugim section is 38x22x18 with a water height of 15" that gives me approx 55 gallons. The display tank holds 350g, the first sump tank has some live rock in it. My refugim has a dsb and calupera. Let me know how you configure it and there is certainly many differing opinions on how it should be set up.

I have two 65g sumps under my 475g. First sump fuge.... 2nd one has the skimmer and return pump....

Go as big as you can..... I would say never to big..... Wish I had room for a 3rd sump
