Laguna Max-Flo

I will either be getting a Laguna Max-Flo 2900 or 2400 for a return pump for my 250 gallon. I will drill the back of my tank for the two returns, but I need to know what size of holes. It says the outlet size is Universal "Click-Fit" hose coupling 3/4", 1" & 1-1/4". I assume drilling the holes to accommodate 1-1/4" would give me the best performance correct?

Great pump by the way. I've been using the 2900 on my 77 gal DT and 80 gal basement sump for almost a year. I figure I'm flowing 12-1400 gph after 12' of head. I was even able to glue pvc right on to the quick connect that comes with the pump :)

I have the 2400 on my 240 ga. I ran 1" 1/4 out of pump into a Y. I put ruducers down to 1" after the Y and ran 1" up and into tank were I split each line into two 3/4 " lok lines. Works great. You can see by ball valve I have it throttled back a little. It's amazing how much water it pumps only using 100 watts.

Great pump and yes, the larger plumbing is the way to go; less friction = more flow.

It looks like they are coming out with a new ("Next Generation") line of pumps with some increased efficiency. Check out this site that appears to be selling the older models at a discount (the newer models are towards the top of the page):

I bought a 2900. Just got it today and had to remove the cage since there was a packing peanut in the pump. I'm not sure I put the cage back on correctly.

Also how can I attach PVC to the pump?

Not sure it's all the way together.

I attached flexible pond tubing to the quick connect barb, then to a Male Pipe Thead barb, then to PVC Female Pipe Thread x Slip fitting.

Basically just transition from flex pond tubing to PVC via barbed fittings.
