Caught this hermit crab on Ft. Myers beach today...was wondering if he was ok to put in my sump...he has barnicles all over his shell. I have him in my QT tank ATM...figured he couldnt be in my DT...hes twice the size of my scarlets...also have a clam/oyster Im curious about that Ill post a pic of later

The second picture almost looks like a scallop. (maybe not) As far as the hermit goes, I have no idea. (probably bad) Putting it in the sump might be a better idea than putting it in the DT. Call it Obi -Wan. Lol.. "He's just an old hermit that lives beyond the Dune sea." ;)

The sump is the only place I'd put a hermit like that, the clam is likely a Southern Quahog and would be better suited for a steampot than a tank. It will likely die unless you have a tan kwith a lot of particulate matter and food in your tank which. One that size could potentially nuke a small-midsize tank as when it dies it will likely be under the sand and not noticed until your check your parameters.

Thanx for the feedback...do you think that hermit will kill snails if given the chance? I have my sump setup with a refugium with LR and Chaeto and would prefer not to have to replace snails or him make his main diet out of them instead of the stuff I'd like him to eat.

Yes, he'll probably kill and eat any other small inverts in a fuge.
