View Full Version : Too Much Flow?

I have a 60 gallon with Duncans and Frogspan. The duncans seem to be doing well and responding as I have them on a lower rock. My frogspan is also near the duncans as well but seems to be shrinking maybe.

I have 2 Korialla's on my tank at each end. One is 550 and one is 1040 models. I am wondering if this may be too much flow as well as the return pump pushing close to 600 gph. Everything else is doing great except the frogspan.

My parameters are fine as I test weekly. I had heard that medium to no flow is best which is why I placed the two LPS's near the bottom and away from the power heads. I also wonder if the frogspan may need more light as it sits under a large rock of green stars.

Any suggestions?

They will like some water flow, moderate lighting as well, I would not have it under a large rock, wht type of lighting r u using?

medium flow is going to be best no flow is bad your powerheads and return are not to much just position them in a way that it gives the corals gentle random flow also youtube is great look up vids of happy LPS and it will give you a good idea of what to do.

P.S. dont search happy LPS search something alone the lines of LPS tank or frogspawn etc you will get better results.

I am running 55 by 3watt leds.Everything is doing great and responding to the lights.
Just curious about the frogspan....seems to be not doing as well or slow growing.

yeah frogspawn doesn't like too much flow, just move it to a low flow area you'll see it will response much better. I had one in the sum and it did extremely till i moved it in the DT. Now it doesn't open as wide as it used to, but I think it's trying to adapt. Low flow and medium light is perfect for frogspawn

Try an area of the tank where the flow is a bit lower, also try getting it out from under that rock, and see what happens, Ive had several colonies over the decade respond well to low flow to medium flow, just have to find a spot that it likes!

Thanks all! Going to do a bit of moving around to see how the frogspan responds.
