I have an MP40 with the new Eco Smart controller. I love the things that this pump can do. The only problem I have is the flow length in the tank.
At full blast the pump only reaches about 3 1/2 feet. I wonder if I have the wet side positioned wrong or is there something I can do to get water to travel further in the tank. At 3000 GPH I thought it would reach much further.

Any ideas?

Anyone else with this issue? I know there is a million MP40 owners out there..lol.

The part of the wet side cover that does not have the grooves in it, its flat. Should it be positioned pointing up or down towards the sand??

I think that is the way the pump is since the flow is so wide. Mine acts the same way on my 75.

i dont necessarily agree. I Have a 48x24x16 tank and i just installed an mp40. Even at a low setting say 30-40% the frogspawn on the opposite side of the tank definitely gets flow. at 80-100% its thrashing around. I think it will depend on your rockwork and "how much" flow your expecting to see as well.

Wish mine did that.......about 3 feet is all I get.

I have an MP40 on my 180 on the right side and I get flow to about 3 ft ( I have a single overflow in the left corner) I will be buying a 2nd pump, I think I will be going with an MP60. My plan is to place the 60 on the right side and the 40 on the left side next to the overflow

I am very happy with the MP 40 and its ability to keep the substrate and live rock clean, my tank looks a lot cleaner, IMO a quality circulation pump is as important as a good protein skimmer
