I am getting ready to take 90+ pounds of live rock out of my tank in order to net this six line wrasse and trade him back in at the LFS. How long can i leave the rock exposed to the air during this process? I am going to be as quick as possible.

it doesnt matter once exposed to air there will be some die off. Can you take some water out in a bucket and keep it there temporarily? If not just be supper fast but you may have some die off

Fill up a spray bottle with some SW and mist the rock while it's out, that will limit the dieoff.

I agree though, if you can keep it submerged in some buckets, that would be a better idea.

Perhaps you could coordinate the fish catching with a large water change -

Try draining the tank to about 2" this makes catching fish pretty easy, for some reason fish seem to stay in the open under extremely low water levels....nice water change opportunity too.

Good luck

I am going to do about a 35% water change while doing this. I will go buy another brute trashcan to store as much of the rock in as possible. Thanks
