I have a pretty simple question. I'm still in the process of removing the bio-balls from the 2nd chamber of my BioCube. I'm planning on using an InTank Media Basket with Floss, Purigen (100mL) and Chemi-Pure Elite.

Here is the question, while i'm still removing the bioballs do you think it would be ok to use the Purigen in the 2nd chamber while still removing the balls? I'm running the Chemi-Pure in the first chamber at the moment and I want to start with the Purigen.

Thanks!

Since the Bio-Balls are part of your biological filtration and the Purigen would not be part of the nitrogen cycle I'm wondering about your system. More information would help.

Most people remove the bio-balls in the BioCube's in favor of a media basket. That's why i'm removing them

Purigen is a good product. I've used it for years. Our 125 reef uses no carbon with the use of Purigen. The regeneration feature is an added plus. I imagine your using the Chemi Pure Elite because of the Phosphate removal media.

a cautionary note regarding Purigen. It tends to "cake" and thus reduces water flow significantly. Use more flow and less media.

I've never had that issue. Its changed out every 4 weeks with a recharged unit. Possibly if it left longer it may do this.

I've never encountered the caking issue either I recharge mine about every 6-8 weeks. How long does your go when it has caking issues?
