Ok so my skimmer took a crap on me and I wont be able to replace it for awhile...problem is I have 3 small frags and one pretty big zoa colony and 6 or 7 mushrooms. Will my corals die if I don't get a new skimmer for a few weeks maybe months. It's in a 50 gal tank with jobs fish and I do bi-weekly water changes

Are there any fish? You should be fine, there are people who swear by going skimmerless.

Keep an eye on your parameters and you may want to increase your WCs but you should be fine.

Good luck and let us know how it is going.

Oops forgot that part...no fish I had a brook outbreak and leaving it fallow for another 4 weeks

Should be fine without the skimmer, unless your feeding your corals.

That was another question I had. But no I don't feed them because they have all been looking good...some better now than they were in the store. If I have to start feeding them I will but until I have signs that I need 2mix don't think I will

What happened to the skimmer? Oftentimes they are easy to get back on line for a reasonable amount of money...unless you broke the body.

I would do frequent water changes. What happened to skimmer? Not much on a skimmer that can fail like Chris27 said unless you broke body.

iracked the body :( ...does a 10 gallon water change every 7 to 10 days sound ok?

a 5 gallon water change weekly will be fine. I went skimmerless for a while with no ill effects. Softies and lps can thrive in a somewhat nutrient rich tank by the way.

If you can maintain good husbandry (and use good water) you can go skimmerless on a softie/lps tank with no issues. Ive been skimmerless and sumpless since my move 2 months ago and tbh nothing has looked better. I don't want to start this conversation here, but the message is: Don't stress it, fix it right, fix it once, and then get back to it :) Good Luck
