View Full Version : Corals Burning from UV?

I have a coralife aqualight clip on MH light that I replaced the bulb with a Phoenix 14K. The first few weeks were fine, I reduced the light cycle and put the glass top on to hold the egg crate. the issue came after 3 weeks when I removed the glass top, any SPS under the light had the top bleached out and my zoas were not happy.

I think it's due to the UV light from the MH bulb. The small glass sleeve only protects half the bulb. has anyone replaced the metal screen with a piece of glass? would the glass need to be tempered?

any help would be greatly appreciated, I've seen a few matching stories when i searched but none seemed to have any answers.

This one ends with someone saying they replaced the metal with tempered glass but I'm having a hard time finding a place that sells custom sized tempered glass.

well I added the glass back on to cover the tank. . . I'm going to see if that makes a difference. apparently it's really hard to find a piece of tempered glass that's 4" 3/8 X 9" 1/2 that's 1/8" thick.

Can you tell when I added the glass based on my temps? :mad2:
