Whats peoples thoughts on the Reef Octopus NWB150 In Sump Protein Skimmer. My total water volume on my new build is gonna be about 85 gallons. Is there a better skimmer in the $150-$200 or is this about as good as it gets?

I had the smaller version (100 gallon) and it worked great! I recently replaced it with a SRO 3000. For the money, you will have a great skimmer that will pull a lot of stuff out of your tank. No complaints about my smaller version.

While those Reef Octopus skimmers are pretty popular, the Eshopps ones are definitely worth considering as well. Check this out.

I have a Reef Octopus. Thing overflowed like crazy during the 2-3 week breaking period. It overflowed even after I raised the unit so it only sat in 4-5 inches of water. I wanted to send it back, but so many people say good things about it, so I decided to wait it out.

After break-in, it works like a champ, skimming thick nasties and not overflowing. Would recommend but be aware that the area around your sump could get wet depending on your sump dimensions.
