Anyone been to Sea Life Aquarium Kansas City? In one of their large tanks they had an interesting surge/wavemaker device. It looked like a big black rectangular shaped box with two large holes in the face of it. It appeared hinged in the back like it was flapping up and down and blowing water simultaneously out of the holes, or perhaps the water was just shooting out of the holes as it flapped up and down because of the pressure generated.

It was creating an awesome, natural wavelike current. Anybody know more about this, who designed it, what this type of surge device is called? I've been to a couple of public aquariums but never seen anything like this. I tried to find a worker to chat with but I could only find one and she was buried behind a wall of kids answering questions.

Sounds like a Tunze Wavebox to me.

I thought tunze wave boxes were stationary, no outward moving parts, just a pump that was oriented to pull in from the bottom and push out the top. This thing was pretty big and actually moving up and down.
