So I just got a Biocube 14 and it was pretty much stock although it had a good amount of coraline on the back. Heres what I did to it.

I pulled out the stock pump and replaced it with a Maxijet 900. This really created a good amount of flow. It also allowed me to remove my extra in display pump. Freed up some great space!

I used the stock set up to create a media rack in chamber two. I pulled out all of the bioballs and under the grate that they sit on I put chemipure. I put chaeto in the middle chamber where the bio balls used to be and I used filter floss on the top of chamber two. Here are some really poor photos of it.

Im curious whether the rapid LED kit is the most cost effective way to add lights. Anyone have any other ideas? I need to keep the hood on because I have a toddler with sticky fingers running around.

Just tested my levels and the tank is fully cycled. I recently had a minor battle with Aiptasia but I think I have it under control now. I have added a peppermint shrimp and everything is running smoothly. Here are some pictures. A sponge that came with some of my LR, an adventureous bristle worm that lives in a snail shell, and of course a FTS. By the way, going through a major Diatom bloom so the tank looks bad at the moment.

If you must keep the hood that sounds like a good idea, I'm running an ecoxotic par38 with 2 stunner strips and I really like setup over my 7.5 cube but of course that requires the hood to be removed. maybe you could make a glass cover so you could have more options.
