3" sand for FOWLR?

Is 3" enough? I was shooting for 2", but my wife wants to get the jawfish so I read that some were fine with 3" and the jawfish could grab sand from another spot to accomodate their burrowing needs.

I think so. 3 inchs will mound into deeper areas making them 4 or more.

You should be fine. I started with 4 inches and over time areas have accumulated mounds of 5-6 inches. Your rock placement and power head placement will dictate this as the tank matures.
