I made the top of the QT tank, specifically to keep my cat out, and the fish in. And he finds the one spot that is not covered (over the filter), to drink from. Did he just introduce some ferocious bacteria into the QT tank?

Nope - your tank (and the cat) will be fine. I had a half siamese that like to go fishing until I caught him in the act. That was the day he learned about flying, sudden stops, (the wall) and gravity. Never had that problem again.

Of course they will also drink out of the toilet if the lid is up.. :facepalm:

Your cat looks almost identical to mine. Crafty little buggers. Your tank should be fine my cat tried tank water once but he likes to smack around the saltcreep on skimmer in my sump. he will sit and watch the tank all the time the critters do not pay him much attention anymore.

A bare trip wire attached to a 12 volt battery will solve the problem...
