View Full Version : Best for random flow?

I have a 60x30x30 tank and have 2 6095 on the ends and 2 6055s in the middle. It's a mixed reef tank with the SPS up top and the LPS/softies on the sandbed. What would be the best 7096 setting for random flow? I'd like to get some fluctuation, not just ramping up 1, then 2, then 3.....etc.

Or, would the 2 6095 and a nano wavebox work? Don't need a big wave, just want some fluctuation.

Just keep in mind that more recent studies have shown that corals adapt to flow direction and it is more rhythmic then random, for example Dr Shimek had a study some years back that showed corals deploy polyps anticipating a current and food coming in on the current. In my opinion and based on the prevailing knowledge current should change direction in a rhythmic manor much like the tides. Interval mode with a long interval is best for this. If I was to do anything different I would use interval with a 6hr interval, pulsing one pump and idling the other at 30% and then I would consider adding a nano wavebox, ideally the coming soon 6208.

Thanks Roger. In the mean time, how should I set the 7096 with the 4 pumps to achieve this (or is it even possible)?

Very intrigued with the 6208!

When does the 6208 come out?

They should be available in mid october.

Are you using Windows or OSX?

Windows. I have an ACIII but I'm using the 7096 to control the pumps. My main concern is will the 6208 be enough for a 5' tank? Oh, and placement. should I place the 6208 with the pump facing lengthwise or have it facing the front of the tank (30" vs. 60")?

I would place the 6208 on one side, you will use the wavemode on channel 3 and 4 for that, it will also include a 7092 you could use instead. If you have the latest 7096 update for Windows I would use the Interval with Idle mode on and set a 6hr interval and 3 second pulse between 30 and 100%. You could use the same for the 6055 and 6095's I would just place one of each on each channel. I would place 1 6095 in each corner aimed just past front center for the 6095's only and if using both I would place the 6055's in that position and the 6095's centered on the side wall.
