40b return 1 or 2

I am looking at ordering the return kit for my 40b. I am deciding on 1 return or 2 and the size. I have never had a drilled tank, so I am new to this. I am going to be running 2 mp10s in the tank and it will have mostly sps in it. Are two returns needed or is one the norm? Also, is 3/4 return the one to order?

3/4.. Its an eheim 3000

I have an eheim 3000 going into my 40BR too. That return pump is variable between 400-800gph. I used dual 3/4" return lines. I brought 3/4 from the return up to a T then branched into dual 3/4" lines. You could go with one 3/4" return but there is enough flow to work well with two returns. If you wanted to get the most out of your pump you could also run 1" from the pump to the T then branch into two 3/4" lines. It is not uncommon to use piping a size larger then the output of the pump to reduce frictional losses.

im running a 40b with 2 mp10s as well. I went with two returns, just so if my mp10s went out for some reason, i could open up my ball valve on my return line an still have sufficient flows (and multi-directional) for SPS. i chose an oversized pump so i could plumb it to a reactor, chiller, and refugium so i could save outlets and reduce heat caused by several pumps. just my .02, Id go with dual returns.

Yeah, I purchased the overflow from glass holes and did get 2 returns. I also have 1 mp10 right now and plan on getting another.

i had 2 returns on my 40B
