View Full Version : reefa's 75 rr

Finally got all the stuff together to start this. Built my stand and ended up screwing it up pretty bad. So started it over. Not a great wood worker. Building my second stand tonight. Hoping to finish sometime sat. Still waiting on my rock and sand, been 2 weeks. the hurricane pushed my shipping dates back, grrr lol..But steve from reef rocks added a extra 8 pounds for the delays so not too mad=) Will try to post lots of pics. Thanks mitch for getting me back into hobby and for all the help and info=)

What did you mess up on? Doesn't sound like the smoothest start but I'm sure everything will come together in the end. I always try to think that all the delay just keep me from moving too fast. Certainly have to be patient to do it right. What light did you end up going with?

09/08/2012, 01:30 AM
Here is a quick crappy little pic of how I hung my 150W MH over my planted tank. I didn't even paint it yet but it only cost maybe $15. I know you were wondering how to hang the TEK light. Which by the way i found legs for. http://www.aquacave.com/Bracket-legs-system-for-Tek-Light-T5-fixture-by-Sunlight-Supply-960210-P2671.aspx
I'm not sure if they only fit certain sizes or not?

Well the first stand i built I wasnt too precise on my cuts. So after i was done building it wobbled. Then the tank did not sit flush on the 2x4's only one corner was touching. Just didnt feel safe with shimmed plywood and the wobble. Def not a smooth start, but you took the words right outa my mouth, I was gonna say it keeps me from rushing to much lol. I ended up going with 2 72 watt cree led fixtures from reef breeders. They have 13 royal blue, 8 white, 1 green and 2 red per fixture. So far they are bright as heck. From what people saying i can have anything i want anywhere in the tank. But do not run at 100%.

I have to admit this are a bit pricey but they sure do look the poop and should work well with your LEDs.

Actually once i get this stand done and in the house trying to hang the led's from L brackets mounted on the wall. Have no idea how its going to look but we shall see=)

09/12/2012, 08:40 PM
Paint and handles done tonight. Got my rocks in yesterday, still waiting on damn sand. Working on sump and plumbing thurs, friday. Hope to be filling up saturday or sunday.

09/13/2012, 12:10 AM
(: the stand looks really great!

09/13/2012, 01:48 AM
Looking good, what color did you paint it? Did you get all base rock or did you get some live?

09/14/2012, 08:57 PM
Thanks guys) I painted it black, everything in my front room is black so fits in perfect. Got sick so fell behind a couple days but hopefully get sump done soon. All dry rock, mstark going to give me one little live rock and a little sand to get me going. STILL waiting on my sand i ordered from reef rocks over 3 weeks ago??? He offered to give me money back but just 14 bucks. But still hate waiting for freaking sand. Have 60lbs on hand might try that and see if it works. The L brackets worked great for the lights, now searching for timers, each light has 2 plugs so trying to find timers that have 2 outlets and plug in both whites to one and both blues to the other.

09/14/2012, 10:00 PM
I think, funny enough, when I ordered my rock/sand it got stuck behind a tropical storm too. how funny just let me know when you're ready, my rocks won't go anywhere.

09/16/2012, 04:49 PM
Looks good. I'm not ignoring you guys I'm in Florida for my Best Friends wedding.
Whats the side for? are you putting another tank there or is it just for extra shelf space.

09/17/2012, 12:47 PM
The side is for the ato bucket and electrical. Plumbing was a ***** btw i hate plumbing. Filling with water as we speak. Still have not got my sand from reef rocks kinda funny the 60lbs i had was enough so if i ever get it i have some extra sand lmao.

09/23/2012, 09:08 PM
well im back in town. how is the tank doing?

09/23/2012, 09:44 PM
Tank set up, after a couple plumbing issues. Cycling now, should be pretty quick. Got some substrate from mstark and ray. Have 3 chromis in my tank now. Need to sell 2 300 watt jaggers if anybody is interested or know somebody who is. 20 bucks each. Cost 25.99 if i remeber right. they were just too big. Also have 80lbs of sand if anybody needs some or would like to trade some)

09/23/2012, 09:48 PM
Got some mini stars with the substrate from ray wohoo. Also skimmer is already skimming like a champ.204803

09/24/2012, 12:51 AM
Looks like it is coming along great. I can help with that plumbing issue whenever. What kind of heaters are they? Glass? Ti?

09/24/2012, 09:34 AM
They are the jagger glass heaters. Where u can adjust the temp and thermostat. Thanks. I was impatient and fixed the plumbing, had to glue the PVC straight to the bulkhead which I was trying to avoid but hey it's up and running. Going to make a reef cleaners order today for some chaeto n nass snails. can't wait to get some corals and frags in there.;)

09/24/2012, 11:43 AM
(: Nice! Everything looks good.

09/27/2012, 07:27 PM
If either of you going to make a coral or fish order let me know. We can split shipping or something.

10/07/2012, 12:40 AM
So how is everything going. How are those lights? I'm very curious about them.

10/07/2012, 09:08 AM
Everything is good. Got my avast ato hooked up, some clowns and chromis in there. Amm.0, trite.0, trate.0, calc 480. Need to get me a alk test and a ph probe or something like tht. Brown algae going away. Those lights are good, have no frags or corals yet so can't speak on that. But so far I like them. To be honest should have got t-5 just because I can pick tge color better and the glimmer from the LEDs is kinds too much. I can dim and make the LEDs the color spectrum I want but should have got the dimmer on the red/green. All in all like them but until I get some corals I don't know:)

10/08/2012, 01:06 AM
One of my complaint about leds is the shimmer. Never looks as natural as halides. Different units give off different shimmer but even my panoramas shimmer too much or too fast. Not sure what it is just not as nice, but the lack of heat is great.

10/28/2012, 11:45 PM
How are those few pieces doing?

10/29/2012, 08:58 PM
Been away for a bit.. They are doing amazing. That sps came back with some nice polyp extension and is getting green. Think it is a birdnest? Everything else growing well one of the anthelia? Frags melted but one is still there.. Picked up about 20 rics various colors, red monti cap, green hydnaphora, 12 acans, 2 blastmussa, a Duncan, 2 st. Thomas mushrooms, and a green goni for a challenge lol.. That cup coral we thought was dead is getting some green but no polyp extension yet.. Once I figure out how to take pics tht show the color of these corals will post some.. Question I should know this but does a ssb need bristle worms etc etc more than just pods and Nass snails to stay healthy? Was under the impression it needs to be turned moved etc?

10/30/2012, 03:06 AM
The SPS is a pavona. The more life the better. I usually stick to the vibex snails to keep the sand stirred and keep the algae and destrius stirred up. I've never heard you need to keep a Shallow sand bed stirred to keep it healthy but i guess it is possible. I've heard of people stirring their sand to help release organisms and feed their tanks.

12/23/2012, 07:14 AM
How has your tank been doing? I haven't heard from you in a while.

12/23/2012, 10:07 AM
Pretty good, had a mishap and all my fish except 2 chromis died=( But corals and everything doing really good. Trying to stock up on frags and some wrasses atm. How you been? Still moving?

12/24/2012, 12:21 AM
Hell yea I'm still moving. That is when ever I find a job or the house sales, which ever is first. Schools is over for me so I can't wait to get the hell outta here. Good to hear the coral is doing well I never did get rid of all my stuff. I stuffed it in a 20long just for shits and giggles.

12/24/2012, 03:12 PM
Sweet, lol anything I can get from you I will. I also think in the future I will get t-5 again. Led's are nice on bills, but my acans are kinda blah def not coloring up like I would like. Sps,blastos, and duncans love the light and stay nicely colored. Rics are kinda blah cept when the blues come on by themselves.

12/30/2012, 01:57 PM
With daylight on. Some st.thomas, rics, acans, etc. Getting about 17 more frags coming in so will post more pics.

02/23/2013, 09:44 PM
How's the coral doing? Any luck with the Monti?

Steffen Sparks

02/23/2013, 09:49 PM
Everything is great. Sadly waited a little to long with the monti had to frag it down to about a silver dollar frag. ATM 50/50 chance it seems;)

02/24/2013, 10:24 AM
As of today stn starting on frag now damn..( sucks...Wish there was a way to save this guy.
