I bought a package of the Hikari Frozen Spirulina Brine Shrimp food and when I got home I noticed that it had thawed out. I put it into the freezer and re froze it. Is it still ok to use or should I throw it out?

how long was it out? it all depends if it was still under 40F u can re freeze it but it temp got over 40F then its likely to have bad bacteria.

It's tuff to say. It was out for about two hours. In my purse. Very hot out that day also. Thinking I'm out the seven bucks

I'm no Martha Stewart, but when its just 7 bucks, is there even a question? Wild fish avoid dangerous food, mine scarf anything the Grand Poo-Bah of Food gives them.

i live 1-2hrs from lfs, i cant just throw it out, why not? it's sealed anyway.
:eek2: food dont expire after 2 hours sealed. right?

i have complete serve safe food service certification several times and it states regarding FROZEN FOOD (not reef food just general frozen food) that if it is thawed and temp reaches 40F and up it gets into danger zone where bacteria thrives freely.
its not a guarantee that at 40F and up there is bacteria MUST. no its just suggesting thats the danger zone of temp 40F to 135F where bacteria can thrive at its best. this is the reason why heated foods are supposed to be heated above internal temp of 140F and refridgerated below 40F.

Note: sealed does not mean anything. there could easily be bacteria living dormant at frozen stage in the food and when thawed they become active and start spoiling the food from inside.
i would get an ice chest with ice or maybe a frozen pack for ur trip so temp remains under 40F for ur long drive.

And by the way these are just precautions that we all should adapt as a neglect can make a fish sick and kill as they cant talk and tell us whats wrong with them.
