...I have a quick question.

I have a 12g nano, 12 lbs of LR, 10 lbs of LS in an AIO with a couple of pounds of rubble in the back, cheato, filter floss... I added my first fish being a yellow watchman goby yesterday.

I would like to see how much hit to my bioload he is adding. How soon after adding him should I expect to see a spike in nitrates? Should I be testing one day after? two days after? etc...?

Thanks in advance.

It's hard to say given the nitrogen cycle needs to progress. Ammonia is detectable quickly in the absence of a bio-filter, but nitrate takes time, also, it may never register on a test if the rock is porous enough.

Give it a week and then adjust your water changes to meet the need, but one fish in your tank should not be a problem at all.
