View Full Version : Large Tank Vendor Recommendation?

Hello I am going to put a large in wall tank in my new house when I build it and I am wanting only a glass tank because in the past I had a really bad time with acrylic.

I am just south of Austin, TX and I am trying to ask around about who makes large glass tanks around here, and it seems like all of the LFS here use DSA up in dallas for all their custom tank orders. Is there another good supplier who is reasonably priced (they all told me DSA is high) that the LFS around here can order from or who I can order from directly? I know about glasscages, are there other online tank vendors like them?

On another point, what is the largest length of glass tank you can have? I am wanting a 140 inch tank, but glass cages told me that the largest that they can make is 130 inches, is this correct?

Thanks for any help!

I looked at a dsa 215 last week that was made out of 3/4" glass and no center brace. Pretty impressive.

Planet Aquariums. DSA has restructured after all the master builders left. One of them started Planet Aquariums, Armando. His sales rep is Rodney Hicks 469-682-8841, and they are out of Dallas. Here is a post of my 150g -

Just got my 150g from them, pvc bottom, split braces so no shadows, extremely well built by a 15 year Oceanic builder, and recently left DSA to start Planet Aquariums. I just switched over to it this weekend, after picking it up on Friday.

What LFS are you speaking with? Aquadome, Fishy Business, RCA, etc.?

check your LFS, and see if you can get a tank from Deep Sea aquatics. I got a quote from Rodney, and to get it from him was more then what it was gonna cost from Deep Sea. You have to pay shipping to get one from Planetaquariums, unless you are able to drive and pick it up. They do make good tanks though.

The person that owns Planet Aquarium built tanks for Oceanic for 15 years, then at DSA for 3. There are all new tank builders at DSA.

OP, don't mean to hijack your thread. Just a quick question! :)

wildman926,
Great timing on this as I am planning a new build soon. I was considering a DSA 105 but your comment makes me a bit nervous now. Would you still recommend DSA or should I consider Planet Aquarium or other? I am looking for a roughly 48" x 24" x 21" rimless aquarium. Also, they will need to ship to Kentucky.

Thanks!
Pat

The DSA 105 and 65 are both very well built tanks, I would not worry a bit.

No, I would not consider DSA over Planet Aquariums from what I know.

I am attending my first MACNA this year and it is in Texas but it doesn't look like either vendor will be exhibiting. Too bad! I guess I will call both and talk with them. Thanks!

Wildman I have to ask why the bad rap on DSA? I don't think I have seen or heard of a bad tank from them? The biggest complaint that I hear is there price tag. I can say I was not real impressed when they bought up/combined with Ocean View, but for the most part they still look and hold up well.

The DSA tanks are very nice, I owned the 105 rimmed version. You will not be disappointed. I now have a custom made 75 gallon from them.

Are the custom tanks a lot higher than the stock?

about 20%. What I got quoted threw DSA was cheaper then planetaquariums, Before shipping. It was about $75.00 cheaper at DSA then planet. Rodney will price match though, but you still have to pay shipping on a planetaquarium tank, which i was quoted at $225, and I live in Kansas.
