I will be running a 180 gal bowfront w/ 55gal sump in my basement. I have an extra 90 gal in the same room, I was wondering if I filled it up or half way to serve as an emergency resevior - would that weaken the tank's condition in any way? (silicone and structural strength)

I was going to just keep it there incase anything happens to the main display (knock on wood).

The 90 gal isnt fully running because I do not want to waste more money on electricity (power head etc.,).

Or should I just let it sit there?

I see no reason why you would let it sit there and collect dust.

I used a 90g halfway for turtles without problems.

.....my post states why?

I would put it inline as a refugium. I did that for my 150DT - used an old 120g as the fuge, with a 50g sump - could not be happier. Plumbed correctly, it uses almost no extra energy for water movement, and lights can be as inexpensive as you like.

hmmm sounds interesting....problem is the tank is across the room and I already have a 55 gal.
