Our tnk is about 8 months old and we have Corraline growing rappidly lately, if you notice in one of the pictures it almost appears to be growing like a plant, away from the glass. We have also found stems like hese through-out the tanks. I do a 20% water change faithfully every weekend and we have had zero issues with the exception of Aptisia (spelling). It came to the point where the front glass was being covered with corraline so I scraped it off. Good or bad? Are stems growing from corraline normal?

Coraline growth is actually a good sign for the overall health of your system. It's also unfortunately a pain in the *ss to deal with.

It's normal...be happy it's there, and curse it out as you scrape it off. :) ..but only scrape it off surfaces you care to look through..leave it go on the back glass, it makes for a more natural look IMO. :)

what i am seeing is Vermetid snails growing on your coraline.. 2 separate things.

Vermetid snails aren't bad, they are filter feeders, but if you dont keep them in check they spread like crazy and can get annoying (just pick them off with a scraper)

Corraline growing like crazy is good.. it means your tank is pretty healthy.. you will scrape and curse, scrape and curse, etc etc.. :)

Wow Im glad to hear this, I do put ALOT of care into our tanks. I think what your seeing are Stonatella's, we have 100's......amazing at night they are all over the glass. The Corraline was growing mad on the front and sides so I took 90 min and scraped it off the front glass. Since I have the Stomatellas havent been in front only on rear. Whats the chances of purple or blue Corraline?

nope, im referring the the little "coiled" tube looking structures on the corraline. Those are vermitid snails.. :)

The stems that are growing out? Im confused lol The stem in which you see in the pic on the rock appears to be te same one on the back glass...no? They are growing around the tank, we just thought they were a type of Corraline.

Just remember.. you have to introduce coraline to get it.. if you do not have anything with corraline on it then you will not get it

If you want coraline, just get a piece of live rock from somebody that already has it...trade a piece, buy a piece, etc. I've never had to manually introduce it into my tank, it always just showed up at some point. Whether it's from the live rock I already had, or a piece of rock a coral came on...who knows...but I've never specifically had it "shipped".

If you take a peek at the first post pics youll see I have it, I was hopeing to add some color...purple.....maybe. Not sure if thats hows it works. Maybe I should do some more research. I was considering buying some purple up.

Let me know what you find researching it. I have a feeling you're going to find that the color is more tank lighting color temperature and intensity dependent, then species dependent.

I have added you and I will ;0)

don't quote me but I do believe that the color of coraline is based on lighting types and intensities.

I've gotten rock before that had a beautiful "Orange Creamcicle " color but it was on the underside of the rock. When placed in my tank (High Intensity Light) it quickly bleached and vanished from my system completely. It's still in the original system but only in very dark areas so many times color is light dependent.

The color of the rock going in is generally irrelevant...once algae and coraline take over it all looks the same. :) ...unless you can keep a sponge alive.
