So currently I have my tank aquascapomg peninsula style but I'm setting up a new tank and was thinking of doing the rock wall with lots of holes and crannys for fish to dart around in. Way are the negatives or positives? Not cleaning algae, collapse etc...is the glass strong enough over time to hold the rock against it?

I think getting the water flow through and behind it would be tough. You would have to have a powerhead behind it so detritus doesn't collect over time. Have you ever looked into making a wall out of eggcrate, foam and rock? That connects right to the back glass and then maybe do a small island on the sand? That would leave the tank open br still have a natural look with great coral placement.

that is a great idea but I like the idea of the fish actually being able to go swim thorughout that rock wall and in and out of all the holes

I have one. I am rebuilding soon with a new tank same size. I will be adding a PVC pipe with holes along the length and a powerhead at each end to have flow go from behind the wall out into the open tank. The PVC will go up at each end of the tank and the powerheads will be accessible.

Thats how i have mine. Think of a glass coffee table with no glass. Stack rock in front of legs, then wider pieces at the top. Fish have a good foot of swim area behind the rock, return water circulates back there, more water volume and everyone is happy. Well, except me, because we all know rock work is never complete or perfect :(

Positives
-Hiding places for fish and critters.
-Less back glass to clean.
Negatives
-Less interesting scape
-Difficult to maintain water circulation.
