A tank controller would work as well.

I would love to invest in a nice tank controller I can expand on in the future. Its hard to understand what they can do. I've tried to research but its difficult. What about these 2. Good started with good expand ability? Can I just connect the Power Controller Module to the ReefKeeper Lite Controller? http://www.marinedepot.com/Digital_Aquatics_ReefKeeper_Lite_(Basic)_Controller_Multi_Item_Monitors_Controllers_for_Saltwater_Aq uariums-Digital_Aquatics-DA1131-FITEMOMI-DA1131-vi.html

My heater is controlled by a Ranco in my established tank. The tank I'm cycling has a ReefKeeper Lite controlling the heater. Once I move everything over, I'm thinking of plugging the Ranco into the RKL for added protection.

Yes the PC1 Power Controller Module would plug into the PC4 (http://www.thatpetplace.com/digital-aquatics-rkm-pc4-power-distribution-unit) that comes with the Reefkeeper lite. The Reefkeeper was one the best purchases I have made.

I just purchased a ReefKeeper Lite to help manage my water temperature.
(I had it set up and running in twenty minutes for controlling a heater, a fan and two lighting fixtures. Very easy to set up; if you download the full manual from their website.)

My system was slowly creeping up to about 82 degrees and was just thinking it was our warmer summer temps. I purchased a small cooling fan to help keep the temps down. But when the temp got up to 84 degrees and I saw that the heater light was on, along with the fan running, I knew the heater may be the problem.
Using the iTemp function on the controller has kept my temps in check. After two weeks, the temp has not moved from 78.0 degrees and my corals are really beginning to perk back up.
The other two modules on the PC4 are controlling my light cycle. And with the seasons changing, I may remove the cooling fan and let the controller monitor an ATO or other device.

So, I would suggest the RKL as it is very easy to set up and it's expandable for future uses.

Hi all thanks for the start. I knew nothing on tank controllers. Been learning the past few days. Read some interesting (long) threads. One started like 5 yrs ago thru to present. I feel pretty well versed on what they are and what they can do. I'm thinking DA was having difficulties for quite some time. Just wondering if their product line still has problems. I'm thinking an Apex is what I want. I'm no big time reefer by any means. I predict this hobby will continue to take over my life. I don't want equipment I can't expand with to run that tank I want someday. Then theres the profilux. Didnt read much about that one. Wish Shard and the gang would would put their 2 cents in this thread. Like A Good Neighbor SHARD IS HERE!

Why is it so hard to find info on GHL Profilux. Prices, where to order, I had to fill out some form to have them email me a dist. Can't I order one online? Seems like that would steer away potential customers. I'm very interested. I scrolled all 3 company forums. DA and Neptune alot of threads about something not working. GHL was more questions dealing w other than broken issues....

I've been useing the Reef Keeper Lite for a couple of years and it's worked fine for me. I use it for alarms, ph monitor, top off, light/heater controller. It does everything I need it to do.
