why do you want to get rid of them? They are beneficial to your tank as well as a good sign.

overtaking my huge duncan colony. appears to be suffocating it.

i dont want to COMPLETELY rid my tank of them. dont take MY thread as the noob one. ;) i know theyre beneficial. i figured it had SOME to do with lighting. or lack of. thats all. i dont want to HAVE to get the tweezers out to save my duncan if i dont have to.

Try cutting back a little on feeding, usually the population is a ratio of the amount of available food.

How far do you want to go?

Unfortunately this is one of those few areas where "add livestock" is the primary solution. If they are overrunning an area then you need a predator to control them. Also unfortunately, any predator is probably going to wipe them out entirely. Which predator is ideal would depend on tank stocking and size really.
