I have a varity of corals from acro's to Monty cap to leathers and everything is doing great. Except my green star polyps haven't come out for the last three days. Just wondering if this is normal for them to do sometimes?

If you didnt change anything like lights or water flow , and water readings look alright , then i would say it should be fine. Mine do that every once in awile.

If your sps corals look ok, I wouldn't worry too much about the GSP. This coral is "extremely" durable.

Mine does this every now and then too. The longest it has gone is 4 days. When it reopens though it looks fuller than before. It also gives my hermits time to clean it.

Thanks everyone that's what I was thinking but wanted to make sure there wasn't something wrong with it. It's been through extreme ranges of nitrates before so I really didn't think it was dying. Just never seen it closed up for that long

It once happened to me and they weren't opening for over a week. I was both new and pretty desperate to "deal" with the "problem" and added iodine. They opened fully the next morning. Take it for what its worth.

I have heard people claim once they started dosing iodine their GSP exploded with growth. That being said, the rule is don't dose something you can't test for.

Its just my "theory" from experience, but when I see a soft coral with closed polyps for a few days its almost always a precursor to some kind of growth spurt, assuming water parameters are in line.
