View Full Version : Using a phosban reactor without a protein skimmer?
Today I received my PhosBan reactor and installed it. However, sometime during the install I accidentally unplugged the protein skimmer and this managed to pull-in debris and break the impeller shaft. I have a replacement part on the way but I won't get it until the middle of next week. A LFS employee told me I had to have a skimmer running to use the reactor, but I haven't seen any other mention of this. I'm just using the GFO media supplied by Two Little Fishes. Should I stop using the reactor, or is it fine to continue use?

You should be fine. You may need to change the GFO sooner because the reactor will be the only means of exporting nutrients. If your tank is well stocked then you'll need the skimmer up and running ASAP.
Yeah, I ordered through drs. Foster & smith. They've been phenomenal. I told them the tank needs this part bad and they expedited shipping, which here in AK means 2-4 business days...

No issues, running without a skimmer. I would do an extra water change to export some nutrients during the wait.
