Placing a vortech on the bottom of the tank?

Has anyone ever had the idea to place a vortech on the bottom glass of a bare bottom reef? My fellow reefer and i were coming up with off the wall ideas the other day on a way to a swap and it caught my thought. would it help create a better wave motion pulsing up and down rather than horizontally? has anyone ever heard of anyone trying this?

There is a member on here that did it that way. I can't for the life of me find the thread or I would post a link to it. Maybe somebody can come up with it or the member will chime in. For some reason I forsee lots of problems with inverts climbing into it but on paper it sounds like a good idea. However, the motion of the ocean doesn't go up and down.
