Okay, so I've made my decision and tomorrow I'm going to order two lumatek ballasts, two reflectors and two Radium 250w bulbs. I running into some differing information though on which ballast to choose. I wanted to get the 150/175/250 with hqi setting , but one lfs told me to go with the 250/400 model in case I want to upgrade to 400w radiums in the future. But my question is, does the 250/400 model have the ability to run the 250 watt radium on the hqi setting? All I see is a "super lumen" setting. Is that setting for 400 watt bulbs only?

I bought the 250/400 Lumatek for the reason you mentioned, I wanted the ability for future upgrade to 400W without buying new ballasts.

Sunlight Supply must have made a labeling change after I bought my ballasts 6 months ago, mine have a 250 HQI setting on them. They light my 250 Radiums quite well.

I've got to figure the Super Lumen setting is the same as HQI, but you may want to give the vendor you're ordering from a call, just to make sure.

If you order the right reflector (lumenarc or lumenmax) they will reflect the light much better and there will be no need to have 400 watt lights unless u have a monster tall tank. I run the 250 hqi lumateks on a 30 inch tall tank and can grow anything I want.
