I'm setupping a 90g and wondering what size drain I should pick.
My return pump is a Eheim compact 5000 so I'm going with 3/4'' but I don't know which size I should use for the drain.
I was thinking 1 1/2'' but I'm wondering if it's too big.
Thanks for your input !

can a drain be too big??
1" to 1 1/2" is the normal size but i use 2" bulkheads for drains when i drill out a tank just because i would rather be able to have a return pump run at full gph and not over-flow the tank than to try to find ways to slow the gph of a return pump because the drain is too small

And use 1" for the return plumbing. Too much friction loss in 3/4". In every case, upsize the return plumbing at least one size over the pumps outlet size.

Single 2 inch drain on my 100G cube with 2 - 3/4 returns with 2 quiet one pro pumps
