My ph dropped to 8.0. I saw buffers to hold the ph at either 8.2 or 8.3. I have been trying to keep a ph of 8.2. Is that correct, or should I bring it to 8.3?

Which buffer is the most commonly used?

I would say dont even mess with it unless it drops below 7.8. Mine stays between 7.8 and 8.1 and everythings fine

Read,"What is the acceptable pH range for Reef Aquaria", in this article.

The problem with using buffers is that they must add alkalinity, despite various claims to the contrary. It's a losing battle, since the root cause is a high indoor carbon dioxide level. I agree that pH down to 7.8 is fine. If you want to raise pH, using limewater for ATO or getting fresher air to the tank tend to be the most effective approaches.

pH of 8.0 is fine. I wouldn't mess with it. If you have a constant pH of 8.0, don't tinker with it. If it drops below 7.8 I would start worrying.
