I have seen where people write about attaching LED strips to their T5 fixtures to add shimmer to their tank. If anyone here has done this, could you post a picture of your setup and how the LEDs were attached to the T5 fixture?

Thanks!

Up until a month ago I used this fixture I made using T5 and LEDs, I now am 100% LED.
I used AquaticLife T5 fixtures which can be attached together and put a diy LED fixture between them. The pics don't show it but I ended up using 36 LEDs. I formed some this aluminum to cover the heat sink and cooled it with two 60mm fans. Great light, just got tired of trying to figure out which T5 bulbs to use.

I put 2 reefbrites on my Tek Elite 8 bulb. Piece of cake. There were screw holes in the Tek right where I needed them. Don't count on shimmer punching through with the 8 bulbs on though. More for mid-day intensity. You get a bit of shimmer with just 4 bulbs on.

Are those regular or HO reefbrites ?

They are the original reefbrites. I have one white and one blue. For bulbs I am running 4 ATI blue plus, 2 ATI coral plus, 1 ATI purple plus and 1 GE6500. I am not a fan of the overly blue look - going for a crisp white.

You can see what they look like on my build thread here http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2238444

I used one white and one blue simply because that's what I had kicking around. I was picking up a frag and the person selling it had a reefbrite on a tek elite so I went home and copied what he did with what I had. The blue adds some nice pop but the white adds the shimmer - it has a lot more punch.

Don't know if it's a coincidence but my big elegance that has been bullet proof for 5 years has been grumpy since I added the LEDs.

I currently only run the LEDs at peak day for about 2 hours. I have been bumping it up 15 minutes a week and watching closely.
