Hi all Im new to Reefing I started my tank 6 months ago but never started a thread on here. As I am still new any advice is welcome I have learnt just by reading forums and reading peoples threads which have inspired and got me addicted :) I want to achieve a minimalistic bonsai style look as I have a ADA, Im looking to keep a mix of LPS and SPS Corals.

Very nice system. I will watch with interest as your tank matures, really like the tank/stand look.

With your objective o keeping LPS and SPS, what are your thoughts on the lighting for your system?

These Lily Pipes are made for fresh water tanks but because im using a canister filter its the only option really that looks nice. Its not Ideal for marine tanks as there is no surface skim and cleaning them are a bit of a pain.
In the future I would be converting to a sump as the canister filter is a bit of a pain as it needs to be cleaned weekly as they can build up with nitrate.
the canister is stuffed with live rock, carbon and GFO.

Hello Almondsaz at the moment Im thinking about either a Kessil A350w or the Maxspect Razor what do you think?

Getting the tank wet what do you guys think about the scape? Im going to keep LPS on the left and SPS on the right, maybe a RBTA on the left rock with Snowflake clowns.

The razor is what I almost got. The only thing that got me to go with the AI Sol was I saw it working at the LFS and was very impressed. The salesmen put it through its paces. The razor legs can't be adjusted up or down, so it is a "fixed lighting element" which isn't really an issue since it has a built in controller. The Kissel would look great and is a very nice light....would one be enough coverage - I don't believe it would which means you would be spending more than if you got the razor or AI or the Maxspect P-Series. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the ones you are looking at, as they all appear to be comparable for the most part. Again, my only concern about the Kissel is that you probably would need two, especially if SPS is in your future for the coverage of the tank. Just my thoughts, but I am no expert on LED....just learning it all. I was up to speed with the MH and T5, but the LED lights are a new learning experience for me.

The tank progress looks great I really like the entire look - tank, aquascape, MP10, stand. Great set-up.

Now lets fast forward 5 months down the line this is how my tank looks now, the Anemone Crab has taken up the left rock and the Wrasse has taken up the right rock.
I have also bought a cheap light for the time being to help my tank mature a bit, I am finally going order my Maxspect Razor next month so I can start stocking some corals.

As I am still new to Reefing I have been learning as I go along, my tank has had a few issues but not major as you can see the rocks are covered algae I didn't think with such a low bio load it will green that much is this normal?
I have also had a bit of red Cyno on my sand bed, Since these issues I have changed my filter set up instead of a filter floss pad im using live rock instead with Carbon and GFO. I feel like the Carbon and GFO is not working at its full potential in media bags so im going to try some Blue Life Clear FX Pro what do you guys think of this product?
I now clean my canister filter on a weekly basis and do a 30 percent water change. Every month I also clean the pipes and change the media in the filter.
Iv learnt its all about consistency :)

I have read that six lines can be quite territorial - and aggressive to new fish. You might want to consider changing the rockscape around when you add the clowns.

No offense, but I think you went too fast in putting stuff in. The tank really needs to cycle before you put a bunch of stuff in. But otherwise great tank!

It's normal for these fish to disappear until they are more comfortable. Looking good so far!
