hey everyone, was hoping to get some insight on the proper types of corals to add to a 14 gallon biocube with upgraded 36w LED lights from rapid led.

Everything in the tank is stock except for the lighting of course. Also added Chemi Pure Elite to the 3rd chamber. Live sand and approximately 15 lbs of live rock. Tank has been FO for about 6 months now, but have decided it's time to add some coral.

Any suggestions for a tank like this? are SPS doable or should I avoid?

thanks

Ray

Avoid sps for about 1 year more. I got acropora after my tank was up for 6 months and died. start with some easy softies like zoanthids, finger leathers, kenya trees, xenia (is really cool), and perhaps some green star polyps. They are all cool and easy corals.

I had good luck with SPS only 2-mo after setting up my tank. It's all about stability of the tank. Agree with avoiding acros for now, but starting with stylo's, birdsnest, and monti's should do you well as they are easiest to keep. You have enough light, just make sure your Sg, Ca, Alk, and Mg are all in line and stable.

i start all my tanks with acros after a few months, i agree with ange062 all about stability. if it is your first saltwater aquarium then i would avoid any of the stony type corals, otherwise you will not enjoy the hobby as much with sps needing so much care and are demanding. you want to enjoy the hobby. think long term though, do not add anytthing you will regret later down the road, in small system like that GSPs xenias anthelias and leathers look great and all, but will crowd that tank in 6 months! maybe some acans, euphyllias, ricordias, zoas, and some easy sps like mentioned above, montis stylos digis birdsnest... good luck!

How do you like the Rapid LED retro? What lighting did you pick? Dimmable?

I am considering my options for a Biocube 29. Thanks!

Just got it today...

So far its been a nightmare. Unless your an electrician, good luck. I've been at it for over 7 hours now and still no luck.

Waiting to hear back from Rapid LED with some help.

I chose 5 RB, 4 NW, 2 UV, and 1 Red. (Dimmable)

If i ever get this up and running I'll let you know how it looks
