I have a Regal Angel thats been with me for about 2 months alone in a qt. My display has been fallow for 10 weeks, awaiting the 13 week mark before any fish will be transferred. The regal seems to have scales that are being deformed by something burrowing under. It seems to be be some sort of worm, and he was in two separate treatments (2 times prazipro and 2 times furan 2). It doesn't seem to get better with either treatments and lost several scales. He is acting, swimming, and eating very well. He is not bloated and this is not ich.

The picture isn't the best, but it's hard to get a pic of the worm like protrusion, but you can see the deformation caused by the pressure under the skin. Anyone know what this could be?

Have you treated your fish with Prazi? If it is a worm, one or two treatments of that should take care of it.

Two treatments. He's finishing the second, and I'll be administering the third soon

Looks like a potential Bacterial Infection if you ask me.
I had a harlequin tusk with something similar, and after a few treatments with Nitrofurazone (Bi-furan/Furan-2) it cleared up.
The nice thing about those meds is that it's safe to mix with prazipro from my experience.

Thanks fishbowl. I thought it was bacterial (internal) since there was a slight bloating and scales coming off. I treated with furan-2 but no luck and the prazipro yielded no changes.

From what I understood, once there are symptoms of internal bloating, the fish passes soon after. It's been at least a month since the first scale came off and he's still doing well. How long did the nitrofurazone take to work? Seems like it may be tough to get a hold of.

Try kanamycin(sp) This works well for bacterial infections. Has never let me down.

I have finished nitrofurazone with no results. I have him in a larger qt and will be dosing copper. I am convinced this is some sort of worm as it hangs off of him and I believe the scales are coming off due to inflammation. I will update on his condition soon...
