So I saw my emerald today with his belly full of eggs.... Picture isnt very good but im wondering how, I only have the one, no mate. And within the last 2 weeks all of my birdsnets has become victim to someone. Im wondering if it could be him/her. Had some camel shrimp that I thought did it now idk. Any ideas?

Female crabs can store sperm. Also, you have no worries of baby emeralds. They cannot mature in your tank, and become fish food when hatched. It's always a possibility that the crab went after your birdsnest. However, my experience with emeralds, is that they will only go after other stuff in the tank when they are running out of algae to eat. It might be helpful to know how long the birdsnest has been in the tank. Other factors could be the cause of its demise (hitchhikers, parameters, etc). I have read many reports of reefers complaining about their camel shrimp attacking corals. Its possible this could be the culprit. How long has the shrimp been in the tank? You might want to grab and flashlight and take a look in the tank at night. You might catch something red handed.

okay so one day i literally saw a camelback shrimp eating the birdsnest.
So after total aquascape i moved them both to the sump.

The birdsnests have been in there for about 3 months about a week after the emerald crab and no issues at all until just recently. My thinking is maybe she has the craving ! so far all but 1 birds nest is all gone.

I have dipped everything in my tank and with the recent re-aquascape i checked every rock again and re-dipped. I did find my PomPOm crab that i thought was long gone!
