1. wht should i do in the mean time while there is NO skimmer
2. should i just get a new pump from these guys or a better skimmer brand
3. how long can my tank go without skimmer.

Generally speaking, you'll be fine for a few days without a skimmer. In fact, some systems can do well without one indefinitely.

1. Cut back a little on feeding
2. Add an additional water change to your weekly maintenance schedule
3. Monitor your nitrate and phosphate levels for sharp increases

I would personally just get a replacement pump, but maybe someone else will chime in here.

My skimmer died a little while ago too. It took almost 2 months for me to get the replacement part I needed. Everything was fine in that time. I just kept an eye on things to make sure nothing happened. Everyone got through it just fine.

When I used too much epoxy to affix frags to rock, my skimmer went blooey. In its place, I bought a HOT power filter at the local pet chain and stuffed it with GFO/GAC. As a temp fix, it worked for me.

Vince,

I have found CoralVue to have excellent customer service. Have you tried posting in their sponsor forum? They usually reply very quickly to any problems posted there.

Check the impeller before you get a new pump. If it is the impeller it's much cheaper to replace that than buying a whole new pump.

Sounds like a good excuse to buy a new skimmer. Upgrade time!! And why is there always a smart a$$.
