View Full Version : How many tunze 6105 for my tank?

Getting ready to order my tunze pump(s). I have a 105 gallon tank measuring 48X24x21. I am planning to get two tunze 6105's but wanted to make sure that that wasn't overkill. This is going to be an SPS dominated tank so maximum flow is necessary. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

6105 pump is powerful and has relatevely narrow output, so flow is specific. in BB tank they're ok, but if you have sand - you'll use them in 50% of power. Have a look at 6095 pump, they have wider and more gentle flow.
I used 2 6105 pumps at Elos 120 tank, dimension are like yours. Now in new tank (44x32x22) flow is 1 mp40 and 4 tunze 6095 (bare bottom sps).
1x6105 on the long side and 2x 6095 would be more interesting imho.
6105 and 6095 are silent (compare with vortech)

I think you've made the correct choice with two 6105s. The 6105 now comes with two flow housings, one for the original narrower flow and a second that gives you a much wider flow. Since your tank only has 48" in length you'll probably want to use the wide flow housings. They can also be turned down (either with a controller or with the control dial on the pump cord) if needed, so there's really no risk of them being overkill.

I have the the same size tank and two 6105's and the wide flow nozzles. Works great on the controller with alternating flow. The standard nozzles is too narrow in my opinion. I always struggled for good flow patterns. No problem with the wide ones!

Thanks guys! I read about the new wide nozzle's included with them. I will go with the two of them with the option of decreasing the flow if needed, but it leaves me the option of using them on a future upgrade! :) I plan on controlling them with a apex unit.

My 6105's with wide front is way too much for my 150g 6ft long tank. I'm using the 18v jumpers and have them at 50% during day. Still seems like too much for my lps but my sps loving it.

^ well I'm going to have an SPS dominated tank so the more flow the better. Rather have more that can be reduced then not enough I guess. I guess for now I will start with one and then add in the second pump later... it will be a while before my tank is mature enough to start placing SPS anyway.

BRS is having a sale on almoste everything, so went ahead and ordered two powerheads and got a great deal on my Vertex Illumina!!! Very Happy!

Nice. 6105 comes with a 24v jumper too. Overpowered. Are you getting a controller? 7096 has been good to me.

I'm going to use my Apex controller, but if i can't get the flow I want then will try the 7096.

I'm using 3 6105's controlled by a profilux

Two is good. It's a very powerful.

I forgot to mention I use the 18v jumper and run three second 100 percent pulse. 24v was too powerful or I'd have to lower the percent a lot to compensate
