Hi Guys,

I'm tired of lugging buckets around to do my weekly water changes. I'm a newbie when it comes to pumps. Can someone provide suggestions of an external pump?

1) Distance from brute mixing container is about 15 feet
2) Plan on using a garden hose to fill the tank back up
3) Plan on using the hose to suck out detritus from the sump
4) Self priming

What pump and how powerful do you guys recommend? I prefer something with a little more power than not.

Thanks.

I use a mag drive 5, (500 gph) I mix my salt on the front porch in a 37 gal rubber maid container and pump it about 15 ft to the tank. takes about 10 mins to fill.
also I use the pump to mix the salt too.
hope that helps,
Russ.

Thanks Rustafar. Does the mag drive self prime?

Once I drop it in the water it fires right up. no jiggling or pulling the plug in and out.

I use a mag 5 too. But I drag my brute can across tile set it near the tank and pump ten gallons through five ft if hose. With less pump distance it only takes a minut or two to pump the can dry. I also use it to mix my salt in the same can. I didn't buy the pump for this specific purpose, I just had th pump and it woks great.

They have wheels for brute which work great.
