Wondering if anyone would care to take a screen shot of their layout they came up with for the new apex software.

Here is mine.

You checked that you didn't inadvertently drag it to the unused tiles bucket?

Go to one of the Dashboard pages you have not yet modified and take a look there.

I did - I even applied the web page again and tried from two different browsers. Could I have reached a max object? I also moved them around to see if they were covered up.

Guys, this is awesome!

I love the creativity you were able to show. It is amazing to see how everyone is laying things out.

This has sparked an idea from us here at Neptune. Everyone start playing around with your Dashboards because very soon we will be announcing a special contest with cool prizes. Make sure you follow us on Twitter and/or like us on Facebook to get the announcement and rules!

Keep up the creativity!

I called Paul and neptune and it was because I had too many tiles it actually pushed them off of the page to where there were not accessible. He was able to move them into my unused tiles.

VERY nice software/firmware guys! Love what they/you have done.

While you guys are kicking around ideas, feel free to implement a "read only" page that can be displayed to others. This will allow us to put our pretty little web cameras and current running config up for other reefers, etc. It would be very useful for the "Hey buddy, I have to go on vacation for a few days. Can you feed my fish and login every now and then to get a general health check.?"

Granted, you could just give them access to the whole enchilada, but that's not usually how i roll. ;)

1 Per dashboard; so if you use 1 dashboard for the display tank and another dashboard for the fish room you can have separate video feeds.

If you are looking for an inexpensive one without bells and whistles, but at least for me still does the job, I use a:

Linksys WVC54GCA

After the fam vacated following the feast yesterday I decided to play around with the .css file, thought you guys might like to see the result.
I love the new interface, but I'm not sure what Neptune's fascination is with dark charcoal gray. Now it may be a little to orange, still haven't decided.

Haha! I was in the same process of doing this except I was using sky blue. I'm not a fan of dark pages either.

Once I get it like I want it I'll post. Was actually thinking of waiting until the final release to do it.

In addition, neptunes could make a better organized CSS.

Line breaks please.

In addition, neptunes could make a better organized CSS. Line breaks please. It's called minified code; minifying is a common practice which results in reduced file size. The Apex javascript files are minified as well.

eyesolator
11/23/2012, 09:06 PM
I'll be anxious to see what you come up with, like I said not sure I like all of the orange. The first thing I did was to put the line breaks in to try and figure out how they were doing things.
I looked at some of the script files too and saw they were all smashed together. I wouldn't think it would save that much space.
I would like to have access to the .sht files too. On my last set up I used graphics for the various page names and that's where I inserted the code for them.
John

The first thing I did was to put the line breaks inIf you did that manually, save yourself a lot of effort the next time: search for an online CSS deminify or beautifier tool... there are many out there. I use the one in my favorite PHP editor.

Alright I was inspired to try my luck with the full redesign. I also added the color feature that I wanted. Green when on Orange when profile and Red when off. Was pretty easy to do only a line of coding about 50 characters or so and a few lines in the css file.

I changed it from the dark theme to the light theme. Maybe Neptunes can offer two different style sheets for that on the release.

Here it is. Thoughts?

I agree 100%. One period or comma out of place and you won't be able to access your apex.

You should know the basics about css, javascript, html, and error analysis for each otherwise you will end up with a blank screen and no idea how to correct it. Especially with the way the files are compiled.

The type of cameras which work are specifically called network cameras... they connect to your network with a network cable and/or via WiFi. The camera must be able to provide a MJPEG stream - most cameras today do that.

USB webcams are those which plug into a USB port on a desktop or notebook computer. Such USB cameras will NOT work with the Apex web pages. And while talking about USB, it can't hurt to reiterate: NEVER PLUG ANY USB DEVICE INTO AN APEX AQUABUS PORT.

I'll be getting a Dropcam here tomorrow and I'll report back if its works or not. I hope I'm wrong, but based on what I've learned about the DropCam, it will not work. As far as I can tell, the video stream is not directly accessible. Instead, the cameras constantly sends the video to Dropcam's cloud, and you then play the video from their web site. And the specs say that it is H.264 video only - MJPEG (which is used by the Apex dashboard) is apparently not available.

Dang didnt think about the encoding, and your also right about it coming from their server but you can set it up to be accessible. Format allowing, I figured that given a URL that the controller would be able to grab the feed, like it would from any address. looks like it wont make it here tonight but I'll update if I learn anything.

P.s. Any chance of supporting H.264 in the future ;) ;) ha ha ha, thanks for the great hard and software guys.

Myself, I like the dark theme they are already using. I can't stand white backgrounds. Hopefully they will leave (color-wise) what they've already done alone but but perhaps give the option for users to easily change things up and personalize their screen colors if that's what they desire.

You know, there's no reason why Neptune should try to please everybody if they're giving this app away for free.

The beta version, I believe, is to test for bugs and get feedback for 'possible' changes. The reason for releasing the beta firmware version is to test it. Opinions are what they are looking for. It also gives you, the end user, to give input that may or may not be considered.

Also it's not about pleasing everyone, this isn't a free app it's a firmware upgrade for a $500.00+ product. This upgrade in my opinion makes the Apex even more competitive & user friendly than it's competition.

I understand some people aren't comfortable with change, however, by giving customers more options you appeal to a wider range of potential customers. Without feedback, neptunes wouldn't know what it's customers wanted.

Spazdad Thanks for the comments. Looking through their /www files there are still a lot of inconsistencies from page to page just simple stuff like spacing etc. I'm sure it is the least of their worries until they get the whole thing stable. But different color schemes are easy to do and it would be nice for them to offer them to those who might want something different.
Irregardless of the color the functionality and ability to change the layout is killer!

X Thanks, Found it in the script easy enough but I just needed to know the correct syntax.

In just installed the new beta dashboards and I love what I'm seeing so far but in looking at others dashboards I'm curious if you can control the color of each probe. For instance I have a temp probe in my display and in my new salt water tub but one is blue and the other is black, can I change them both to be one color?

Xcali1985
12/05/2012, 11:09 AM
I highly doubt that we will be seeing independent color controls anytime soon. It would essentially require a dynamic css in addition a rewrite of the dashboard as far as style sheet.

Having overall color themes I think is possible though.

For those of you with the web cams....How are you able to get the webcams to stick? Im following the instructions in the guide and i have the correct stream url for the foscam im using (or so i believe) because if i type the string directly in the address bar with the username and pw it displays the feed fine. When i create the new tile and place in the url string for both local and remote it streams fine, event after saving. However, when i hit refresh or close the dashboard and go back into it, not onl is my webcam tile gone but all my tiles default back to the original location. Kinda confused here. Also, if i add the webcam tile but dont put in my custom stream url and save. When i refesh or close the dashboard and come back to it the saved layout and webcam tile are there. Only when i add my custom url does it default. ????

ok i applied the string that aquamanic specified. Its working a bit better. I can now save the dashboard with the webcam tile and also apply the custom string and save. when refreshing the tiles stay saved in the custom layout. in chrome the webcam will flash an image of the camera but then go blank in less than a second. In internet explorer it doesnt show up at all and in opera it will show a sliver of the moving image in the very top of the webcam tile. i will try again from home. I tried emptying cache and deleting history.
