Minimum tank size for a copperband?

I have my guy in a 180 right now and read where they can be kept in a 50 g as a minimum tank size. Is that true? I am currently going to downsize and found a really neat aquarium that is 35 inches in length, 27 inches tall, and 14 inches wide. I am not sure if this would work out. Advice needed?

Personally I wouldn't - I think 60-70g is better. But if there's a good pod population and especially if he takes prepared food, you could be fine. It probably depends more on your individual fish than anything.

27 inches is really tall - mine's the same and it's a massive pita because I can't reach the bottom :(

Well, Mine, back when I had it was in my 115.It just want back and forth throughout the 60" length of my tank, constantly looking for Pods, and Aptasia.I wouldn't house one in a 35" long 50g, just not enough length for it to roam.

My CB is my baby. He eats just about everything. He doesn't like brine shrimp, but loves squid, mysis, table shrimp, clams. I know Live Aquaria says 50 gallons is minimal, but that seems a little small to me.

Mmm. I tend to agree with you guys - if it was longer but shorter, it could be different. In saying that, my cb stuck to about 1/3 of my 5ft tank. He wasn't a big swimmer, but he WAS a big eater.

If he eats frozens, obviously the feeding isn't a huge concern, so I guess it's just up to you as to whenther you think he'll have enough swimming room.

I'm going to go tang police on this one. I just checked LiveAquaria (http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+25+212&pcatid=212) and it is 125. I once saw an 8-9" Butterfly and I very much agree. That fish wouldn't even be able to turn around in a 50. But due to improper nutrition none of our Coppers are getting that big.

In my opinion CBs stress very easily which often leads to shutting down and dieing. I believe there is a better probability of success in a larger aquarium that provides more "personal space" and a sense of security.

Weird! I swore it said 50 gallons on LA earlier today. I thought that was weird. Just went and checked again and it does say 125. Hmmm. I was able to find a 100 gallon. What do you think about that? I've had him for about 5 years.

I think I would be ok with a cb in a 100, if it as eating prepared food and got along with tankmates.
