I have a few pieces showing great PE and a few that are not showing any at all...ones showing PE...sunset monti, monti confusa, starburts cap, setosa and digitata..

Ones that are not...lime table, red planet, green slimer, teal stag, and MC bonsai...let me clarify...there is the tiniest amount of polyps showing...but you have to reallllly look...lol

Not sure whats going on...ill work on parameters now...

You can try to explain your case at a vet but most won't even look at you when you ask. You could also ask around to anyone you know that has a dog as see if they have had a run in with heartworms. Good luck

Good point...ugh...I don't understand why this isn't allowed for a treatment...or other companies can't sell this...unless its banned for other reasons

Grab a magnifying glass to be sure before you go through the project of looking for interceptor. They're not really all that red despite what the name would lead you to believe. They're a pale yellow with a maroon dot at one end. I wouldn't doubt that it is RB though.... they seem to be getting more and more common as of late with Interceptor being so difficult to find. It seems like people are posting all over the boards about RB over the past few months. :headwally:

Will do Scott.

So I talked with a friend who is a vet, they haven't gotten interceptor in months due to issues with manufacturer. So my question is, what other treatments are available that are effective?

+1. Great for dips, but there aren't any other in tank treatments that I would trust as of yet.

So I need a lesson...could you guys please give me a short tutorial on how to do this...how do you treat large colonies that have encrusted onto a rock?

If anyone has any suggestions or direction on how to use the bayer dip it would be appreciated...or any links to instructions would work too

i've dealt with these alot in the past (got tons of pics of all kinds of pest) and like you my SPS were encrusted on the rock. It sucks but you have to chisel them out to get a good dip on them. If you can get ahold of the interceptor you could try Coral RX. I've had success with it on random corals that had the bugs when i was treating for AEFW, but I have to say I've never used it just to treat for an infestation of the RBs. Like everyone says use a magnifing glass to check if thats what they are or if you have a macro lens for your camera use that it makes it much easier i think.

Tried that route Franky...if dog wasn't previously on interceptor for heart worms they will not prescribe. There is something going on with the manufacturer of the medication and my vet hasn't got it in months

+1. It's a controlled med within the US requiring a prescription. I'd imagine that ordering it online without a script and having it imported to the US would be illegal. I'd be surprised if the company would even ship to the US because it would likely land both of you in hot water with Customs if the contents were discovered.

PM Returned

Just so everyone knows...the last frags I bought were not from anyone local on these boards. I'm also not sure of the incubation period of RB's so previous purchases cannot be taken into account.

If someone could shed some light on the life cycle of these buggers I would appreciate it, and before someone decides to bash me cause of not researching ever last detail before asking a question, I am asking in an attempt to spread knowledge from TRUSTED sources. I will begin my own research shortly after the post. All too often people get scolded for not having a PH.D in reefing. I would love to go to other forums and search what people say, but sometimes that person doesnt know their arsh from their elbow and you can be getting some bum information. So since I can tie a name to a face and a face to a tank I get a feeling of comfort asking you all here who know my story.

Thanks and happy reefing.

Mike

Sorry spjames that was not directed at you or anyone in particular...I'm just not a fan when someone posts a question and they get badges at not being an expert. I didn't get a chance to read it. And I def appreciate the link

the life cycle of these pests is 7days. hatched critters will lay new eggs in 7 or less days, hence treatment once a week a min of 2 times.(all i ever needed).

Thanks Chris...I'm trying to pinpoint when I could have introduced the pest into the tank.

Are we allowed to talk about treatment for interceptor if we have the medication?

Are we allowed to discuss treatment using interceptor or is that frowned upon as well? As my only other solution would be to bayer dip everything and that doesn't seem to be as effective as I could miss certain corals and the RB just resurface later.

Thanks all, I read through the Melevs Reef, very good article. Hoping I can get back on track soon as my tricolor, Red Planet, Lime Table, Teal Stag have been losing color and PE...i can only really see them on my Tricolor...but all SPS are on the same rock structure so I am guessing they are all affected.

i have a tri color in the front of my reef for the sole reason of thats my telling coral. iven though im currently free of these little buggers, i still look everyday at that tricolor. ive danced many times with them, and still chose them over flats and monti nuddis...lol:)

Agreed, RB are a breeze, but I have my tell tale coral as well. I have a turaki that is always the first to get infested. It's a nice light base, so the RB contrast well enough that you can't miss them.

If you have the ability to do this, you should as it will help to educate local reefers in the area and club, especially those who don't look elsewhere for info and insight... I don't believe we have much info in this forum as far as pics...
